Louisa Inch, director of Premier Water Solutions, said:

Premier Water Solutions was appointed to provide a foul and surface water design for a large house.
Due to the constraints of the site and a tidal groundwater, we advised that the best course of action would be to connect into the mains sewer that was 138m up the main road.
We inspected the underground services mapping and noticed that there were 14 underground services in the road that had to be crossed. These included the Trans Atlantic Data cabling, two medium pressure gas mains, BT fibre optics and a water mains.
Through careful planning and mapping, we successfully completed a zero strike.
Premier Water Solutions designed and installed a new pump station, air valve and rising main with five metres of gravity pipe with connection into the South West Water manhole. We obtained approval from South West Water for the connection onto their apparatus and from building control to comply with building regulations part H.
The client was more than satisfied with the project and the delivery. As a result of the successful completion of the project, we were then asked to design and install surface water soakaways for the one in 100-year event plus 40% for Climate Change. This was again successfully completed in the time frame and then signed of by building control.

When I was advised that my building project was going to have its own sewage plant, I wasn’t very happy.

Installation of a Solar Farm on Land to the West of Potbridge Farm, Hook, RG29 1JN.

OVERVIEW

It was proposed to erect a 4MW solar farm consisting of solar panels, power invertor stations, transformer stations, sub-station, security fencing with associated access gates and CCTV security cameras at land to the west of Potbridge Farm, Hook, RG29 1JN.

Premier Water Solutions Ltd (PWS) was contracted to review the existing information, undertake a site visit to include percolation testing, technical calculations, drawings and report sufficient information for review by the Local Authority and Environment Agency. PWS was also appointed to prepare a flood risk assessment to accompany the planning application to satisfy and comply with the National Planning Policy Framework (2012).

PROPOSAL

To erect a large number of solar panels on the field. There will be several inverter and transformer buildings within the site together with a separate substation.
Water would be drained via downpipes and allowed to sheet off and infiltrate into the surrounding ground. A low maintenance swale would collect any sheet flow from the surface water draining off the panels onto the ground.

CONCLUSIONS

A hydrological and surface water assessment was provided.

The site is located within a flood zone one with a low probability of flooding.

The proposed development is classified as being less vulnerable.

There was no elevated risk of erosion from the surface water as it travels towards the swale, providing that all of the area remains grassed.

The swales would divert runoff to the nearest existing drainage ditch in the corresponding field.

The final drainage scheme to direct rainfall runoff to the ground with a swale located after every third row of panels.
Buildings and concrete plinths to drain onto the adjacent ground which will be protected.

The constructed access road to require further design to consider the infiltration and structural capabilities of the road.

Installation of a Solar Farm on Land at The Grange, Ingoldsby, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG33 4EY

OVERVIEW
A planning application was made to erect a 49.5MW solar panel farm with power inverter stations, security fencing, access gates and CCTV security cameras at The Grange, Grantham, Lincolnshire, on a site of more than 100 hectares.

Premier Water Solutions Ltd (PWS) was appointed by Padero Solar Renewables to prepare an assessment to accompany the planning application.

PWS reviewed the existing information, undertook a site visit and provided the necessary technical calculations, drawings, and report in order to provide sufficient information for review by the local authority

PROPOSAL
It was proposed to erect 223,008 solar panels. There will be inverter and transformer buildings with a substation.

Surface water falling on the buildings to drain onto the surrounding ground. The floor level of the building to be raised to ensure that the base of the inverter is above any potential overland flow.
An access road is to be constructed using a permeable finish as not to contribute to surface water runoff. The inverter buildings will generate runoff. It is proposed that this water be drained via downpipes and allowed to sheet off and infiltrate the surrounding ground.

Premier Water Solutions 10 Ltd has been named as a delivery partner in a new £3 million project to protect communities and property from the risk of flooding.
Premier Water Solutions 10 Ltd will join South West Water, Eden Project and Cornwall Sustainable Buildings Trust in looking at ways reducing the risk of flooding and subsequent loss across Cornwall and Devon.

The Pathfinder Property Level Flood Resilience Project is funded by a central government grant, awarded to South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee Region and incorporates Cornwall Council, Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Torbay Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly.
The funding will help identify high-risk areas, highlight flood protective measures, raise awareness of the risks and prevention of flood-related damage and seek to innovate and development new protective measures.


Paul Minshull, strategic resilience officer, for Cornwall Council said: “Cornwall Council is pleased to be working with the Environment Agency on the new Pathfinder Property Level Flood Resilience Project. This project will enable the lead local flood authorities in the flood and coastal committee region and their partners to increase local awareness about the benefits of protecting our homes and businesses from flooding.


“We look forward to sharing our knowledge and experiences of providing property level flood resilience and creating a foundation for changes that will have positive benefits to the people of the south west in this era of a changing climate.”


The funding follows on from a competitive evaluation process in which three projects across Yorkshire, Devon and Cornwall and central England were chosen to receive funds to boost research into, and uptake of, property-level measures to protect homes and businesses from flooding.
The funding will go towards new research initiatives, demonstration centres and advice portals which will help people to learn about the benefits of installing measures in their homes which can significantly reduce the potential impacts of flooding.


Louisa added: “Property-level flood resilience can include a range of measures to reduce the damage that flooding can cause to buildings. This can include installing flood doors, replacing traditional chipboard kitchen units with stainless steel, using slate tiles instead of carpet and ensuring that electrics are raised off ground level around the home.


“The measures can significantly reduce the amount of time people are out of their home following a flood.”


Premier Water Solutions 10 Ltd has partnered with Floodflash Insurers and can now reward properties and businesses who invest in using flood preventative measures by offering reduced premiums and excesses for properties that falls outside of the requirements of Flood Re.


The South West Partnership project, led by Cornwall Council, will focus on local innovation to enhance the future take-up of property flood resilience measures. As well as establishing a demonstration hub and web portal it will seek to simplify and streamline processes, increasing the flood resilience of communities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.


The Government is currently investing £2.6 billion to better protect 300,000 homes and thousands of business from flooding and coastal erosion between 2015-2021.
