Property Flood Resilience

Premier Water Solutions offers a comprehensive advice, installation and training for property flood resilience

Helping protect property from flooding

Property Flood Resilience (PFR) is made up from two components: resistance and resilience. Resistance is where we try to physically stop the water from coming into the property or business and may take the form of Flood Doors, Flood Barriers, Non Return Valves etc. Resilience is where we accept that water will be getting into the property and the aim is to get you back into the property as quickly as possible.

Did you know that the average insurance claim for a residential home is £35,000 and you would be expected to be out of your property for about 9 months.

The average insurance claim for a business is £85,000 and it would be typically shut for 3 months.

PFR is a layered approach to reducing the amount of volume and flow into the property.

A Kitemarked door and barrier will still allow seepage. The allowable limit is 0.5 litres / meter / hour. This means that even if you have resistance products fitted the property will not be watertight. It means that by having a flood door for example, you might need to pair that up with water absorbent pads or a puddle pump. By using PFR you will give yourself the best chance to slow the rate and volume of the water entering the property, which will give you the time to manage the water and move valuable items upstairs or evacuate.

Installation of Flood Protection Products

Looking first at prevention, we aim to stop water from entering the property with the use of flood gates, guards and air bricks

If it’s inevitable some water will get in, our installations will minimise the damage when it does. This can include water-resistant flooring, placing boilers in higher locations and using plastic materials rather than wood.

We work with a number of major product manufacturers to specify the best solution for your home. Where appropriate all of the specified products will carry the BSI Kitemark for Installation of Flood Protection Products and for products that aren’t covered under the BSI Kitemark, they will be the best available product on the market.

Some of the products we specify will be the Kitemarked flood safety doors from Aquabex,  Floodtite’s door panel and airbrick cover KM 562762, Kitemarked Floodgate’s and smart bricks, K50 barrier, the Flood Ark temporary flood barrier KM 76513, temporary flood barrier for a double air brick KM 76513.

Prevention of sewage form entering a property will be provided by non-return valves meeting the standard BS EN 13564.
