What You Need to Know About Drainage Mounds
Forming a crucial part of wastewater treatment systems, a drainage mound filters effluent through layers of sand and gravel, using aerobic digestion to treat the liquid before it naturally disperses into the groundwater.

Our Assurance

Compliance, Standards & Certifications

Committed to delivering environmentally responsible wastewater disposal, our drainage mound solutions are designed and installed in accordance with BS 6297:2007+A1:2008 and Approved Document Part H of the Building Regulations. This is particularly important in situations where ground conditions prevent the use of a conventional drainage field.

Ongoing Maintenance and Support

To ensure the system continues to effectively disperse treated effluent without overloading the soil or damaging system components, a drainage mound will require regular maintenance. The perforated distribution pipes need regular checks to ensure they’re not blocked, damaged or unevenly distributing effluent.

Sustainability

We are partnered with a recycled sand supplier in Cornwall to develop bespoke, performance-tested sand blends to our specification. This ensures controlled permeability, achieving the required balance between treatment efficiency and hydraulic stability without risking rapid vertical seepage or surface breakout. Using engineered recycled materials instead of virgin quarried aggregates helps maintain compliance, while reinforcing our sustainability ethos - reducing embodied carbon and supporting the circular economy.

The Installation Process

1. Percolation Testing – this is carried out in accordance with British Standards, including mandatory overnight soakage tests - essential for compliance and Building Control approval.
2. Design – each drainage mound is designed based on the number of persons served and the measured soil infiltration characteristics.
3. Sand Media – specialist sand blends are selected to match ground conditions and ensure optimal system performance.
4. Installation – our in-house, SSSTS-qualified engineers carry out all installations to the highest standard.
